Large carpets for the living room
History of the nomadic carpet
In the 1940s, the burial site of a wandering nomadic people was excavated and, along with everyday objects, the first surviving carpet in history was found. Scientists have established that the tomb dates back to the 5th century BC. As the find shows, carpets were mainly functional at the time, and therefore smaller in size. As well as the fact that the purpose for which the objects were made did not require a larger size, the tools needed to make them were different from their modern counterparts, so that the smaller weaving looms, which were easy to move, could not be used to make large carpets.
The industrialisation of carpet making also led to the development of carpet making, with a greater choice of both looks and sizes. Fortunately, nowadays, all the conditions are in place to create your favourite tapestry in any size.
Choosing the right carpet
A common problem when buying carpets is that customers choose the wrong size. Of course, it is not possible to set a perfect rule for every case, but we will try to help you. In the majority of cases, a large carpet is usually placed as part of the living room or bedroom. The living room is usually a place for socialising, so there is room for a sofa, armchair, coffee table and other furniture. It is advisable to leave a space of about 20 cm between the edge of the furniture and the edge of the rug, so that you buy a rug of the right size for aesthetics and practicality. The bedroom is a more difficult question, there are several options, which one you choose depends on your personal style. In a bedroom, you have the option of covering the entire floor surface with a large carpet, like a floor rug.
The advantage of a large carpet
In addition to the aesthetic variety, there are other practical arguments in favour of a large rug. For people who are allergic to house dust, it makes sense to install as many carpets as possible, as they significantly reduce the amount of airborne dust and thus the symptoms of allergies. As little as one vacuuming a week is sufficient, but the more often you get rid of dust on carpets the better. A large carpet in a condominium will not only make the owner happy, it will also make the neighbours happy thanks to its noise reduction. Unlike hard flooring, textiles are easier on joints and muscles, and the risk of slipping is less than with a larger area rug.
